SteamOS that Valve offers is not the same as what’s on the Steam Deck. It’s extremely dated and is what it used to be. A real distro from Valve has yet to be released.

The best way to install WoW is using Lutris, which also comes with Bazzite. You search for and install Battle.net, then you can install WoW normally. Lutris can also add a WoW shortcut once WoW is installed, too.

You can also just copy and paste the WoW folder from your Windows Program Files folder. It keeps all your settings and addons.

For addons use Wowup-curse. It’s a open source addon manager that is just straight up better than all others.

Currently, WoW needs Proton-GE to work. Using wine-staging, or the dated wine-ge, and Battle.net will have problems starting. It’s something weird with authentication and connecting online. Proton-GE contains a patch specifically for this.

The easiest way to get Proton-GE is using Protonup-Qt if using KDE plasma, or Proton Plus if you’re using Gnome. For Protonup-QT, you select Steam, then install Proton-GE for Steam. Lutris will also be able to use it.

Just general advice, I’d use the latest Proton-GE as the default for all Steam games.

In Lutris set the runner for Battle.net to Proton-GE.

IIRC MPV can be configured to play HDR video as SDR, and you set the .conf things like quality and standard to what you want.

Just look up W10 LTSC. Shouldn’t bug you with upgrades, and has a few more years support.

There’s a systemd OOM service that can be setup. I use CachyOS and they have it as a checkbox to turn it on or off.

I’ve run it on and off for about 6 months. Just switched to it as daily driver. Absolutely love it. Arch but with automatic x64v3/4, including Wine & Proton?! Sign me up. Which is installed with an fantastic gaming meta package, and I regularly get ~10% FPS boost. Excellent default kernel, too.

Correct, for Linux atm it’s mainly app image only for v3 versions.

Edit: for anyone using any app images, I highly recommend Gear Lever to manage them, including updates.

I like Zen so much I stopped browser hopping. It has sane defaults, vertical tabs default, and it’s x64_v3 optimized speed is nice. Default theming is nice, too.

Pipewire can adjust the sample rate on the fly to match what all is playing, so maybe if there is a hypervisor that can do the same?

+1 for Cachy, its Arch with cheat codes for speed.

This also handles the device settings and open-razer driver, it’s more than just RBG control. I use it to set polling rate and DPI, my mouse doesn’t have rbg, either.

Look for the option when installing that is along the lines of “wipe entire drive.”

If you want Debian, check out Vanilla OS. They reached a milestone not too long ago, and it’s a bulletproof distro. It containerizes most programs, it’s immutable, and has atomic updates.

Someone already mentioned, turn off secure boot in your BIOS/uefi settings.

If you decide yes, I highly recommend Fedora Silverblue, or any of the distros based on silverblue/ublue. I myself love Bazzite for gaming.

Those are atomic and immutable, meaning you cannot easily break core files, and every single thing can be updated in the app store. It’s the windows equivalent of not being able to modify/delete C:\Windows; and getting firmware, drivers, applications, and Windows updates all in one click using the Microsoft Store.

This is because M$s scheduler sucks, and needs to be updated for the new AMD CPUs. Happened in the past with other Ryzen releases.

Unraid is amazing for getting into servers. It’s just the right amount of WebUI and minimalism. Very safe and comfortable defaults, and the ability to start tweaking and adding more.

Check out massgrave dot dev, they have W11 IoT LTSC and activators. It’s the best version of Windows! No more dealing with AI bullshit being added, nor advertisements.

I can vouch for Bazzite. It’s at the point where you don’t really have to do any tinkering. The only thing I really had to configure some extra beyond the defaults was pipewire, allowing different sample rates for my USB audio DAC.
