Linux@lemmy.ml•Linux is awesome at home, but aren't y'all forced to use Windows at work?English
3·4 months agoIf I was forced to use windows at any job I would find another job.

2·4 months agoI’ve had issue with proxmox from Ventoy but other than that it’s great.
And now this will be in someone’s vibe coded project…
I was programming in basic when I was like 10 years old and have been hooked ever since. I have been enthralled with these machines for over 40 years. I mean I come home from work (in IT obviously) and mess around with my home lab. The money isn’t bad obviously but this is and always has been what I was destined to do.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Have Nvidia drivers on Linux gotten worse over later generations?English
101·5 months agoJust take a look at their workflow and you tell me. NVIDIA uses an AI-powered code editor called Cursor. It is a fork of VS Code that integrates Large Language Models (LLMs) directly into the programming environment.
Here a quote from this article:
A high-profile endorsement from NVIDIA’s CEO Jensen Huang in late 2025 underscored Cursor’s rapid ascent – calling Cursor his “favorite enterprise AI service” and noting that 100% of NVIDIA’s engineers now use AI assistance with a remarkable boost in productivity.
In late 2024 and early 2025, CEO Jensen Huang explicitly stated that “every single software engineer at NVIDIA uses Cursor.”
And then there is this article:
https://fortune.com/2025/11/25/nvidia-jensen-huang-insane-to-not-use-ai-for-every-task-possible/
So it’s kinda obvious they use a lot of AI in their code. Now there is no direct proof they use it in their drivers but they obviously do given the CEO’s stance.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Does switching motherboard require a reinstall?English
101·5 months agoIt might but I wouldn’t. Every weird problem in the future is gonna make you wonder if it’s because of that. Now what I would do is get another hard drive, install to it, and copy things over. But basically leave the original one alone. My 2¢
I remember these.…

And …

And…

You mean like we all did if you’re like me and started writing code in late 80s to mid 2000s?
Fucking amateurs…
I have this printed on a sign at work.

3·11 months agoYggdrasil somewhere around ‘93… maybe ‘94. Recompiling a kernel took a VERY long time.
I’ve been doing this a while.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Massive data backup question: What Linux software do you folks recommend for helping sort out and organize terabytes of files and remove duplicates?English
2·1 year agoI feel you. I started coding before the internet even existed (well technically it existed, just nobody had access to it)

1·1 year agoIsn’t all the code in git somewhere? I would totally do that for code projects.
I do the same thing with arduino code so I know where you’re coming from.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Massive data backup question: What Linux software do you folks recommend for helping sort out and organize terabytes of files and remove duplicates?English
1·1 year agoHonestly I maintain a list of file types I care about and copy those off. It’s mostly things I’ve created or specifically accumulated. Things like mp3, mkv, gcode, stl, jpeg, doc, txt, etc. Find all of those and copy them off. I also find any files over a certain size and copy them off unless they are things like library files, dlls, that sorta thing. Am I possible going to kiss something, yeah. But I’ll get most of the things I care about.
Yggdrasil In the mid 90s.
Best I can tell is it’s a normal `username@hostname current_directory$ sorta prompt with some coloring: • Red for the square brackets • Orange (color 172) for the username • Light blue (color 153) for the hostname • Amber (color 214) for the current working directory
Other than being hard to read from the embedded coloring I’m not sure why this is a war crime.
