I have to use it for work, and the difference between how my work laptop and my personal laptop (Debian 43) handles basic tasks is stark.

The stuff like “will my headphones work?” has been solved for years at this point. I’m talking even more basic, like rendering the UI and loading menus.

It started because I was poor and resented the idea of paying for software. Then I became a professional developer and the advantages of the OS became more obvious. This was ~15 years ago.

Since then the enshittification of MS has made me more and more confident in my decision.

Yep. I work for a big corporation. It’s a very Windows centric shop. I think it’s mostly organizational inertia at this point, although our numbers people swear by Excel, they refuse to move off of it. They’ve done some very elaborate work in Excel.
