JBL sounds like your audio gear, depends on what. Bluetooth, USB audio ot 3.5mm jack connections generally work fine without issue. (Installing PulseAudio Volume Control will help you with finer grained volume control). Some DACs that require custom Windows drivers might not work.

Gaming stuff, Steam will have you covered, Lutris, Heroic, or itch.io for non-Steam stuff. The one unintuitive thing you have to do once you log in is to go to Steam Settings and check the “Use Steam Play for All Titles”. Just like that, 75% of your library that only have a Windows version will suddenly be playable and you’ll hardly notice a difference: just Download then click Play, that’s it (maybe a bit slower launch time).

I would recommend Firefox or Librewolf over Chrome as you have done already, but you should know that Chrome and Chromium do work on Linux FYI.

On the contrary, I think this is a responsible way to operate. The terms of use apply to the Mozilla distributed binary, not the open source version and open source forks, and I don’t think additional terms shut them out of that. The privacy policy is clear, concise as can be and links so that people can jump directly to what is being collected.

Each 12V circuit from the PSU should deliver around 150W and definitely not more than 240VA (over current protection kick in rating). One cord runs on that single circuit so it can’t deliver more than that much power. I experienced this when I foolishly thought I could reduce cable clutter building my friends’ PC, only to realize the 3080 ran terribly and was drawing about 150W, not unlike OP, except in my case it was clear this was the issue.

Other games too: if it’s a software issue, check Graphics Driver? For potential hardware issues, check if a GPU power cable is loose, reseat it, and make sure you don’t have two pcie power connectors from the same cable connected to both ports.

You probably know most of it so just some advice: Don’t format the Partition table (MBR to GPT etc.) on the disk whose data you wish to keep.

Shrinking a partition or moving it carries a small risk of data loss and will take significantly longer than creating a new partition (since data needs to be cut and pasted from one area of the disk to another). If your old laptop has an empty slot for another SSD or NVME drive you can plug that in, and still dualboot and having the new drive Linux only.

Also to deal with the occasional Windows cockups, just carry a boot-repair USB, the auto repair has fixed the Windows issue for me 90% of the time (the other times are usually boot order priority or other BIOS setting)

It’s a useful tool, but there is a security concern for anything not fully open source. You will have to weigh your risk factors, I doubt that it’s any problem for most consumers or distro hoppers.

Pactl commands will do what I think you want, I keep forgetting the exact syntax. Once you find something that works, you can bind those commands to some key combos to easily switch

I found a solution today using Fcitx, the clipboard addon, and the default shortcut Ctrl+semicolon. However, it works more like a history that pushes each older item down, rather than 10 separately accessible boxes. It seems as though it will work with the use case you described.

Note: I have no idea how well Fcitx is supported in Wayland.

Found the post, for some reason I had a lot of trouble finding it when I was looking around before posting.

@electricprism@lemmy.ml maybe this will help you as it is Linux distro-agnostic. I have not tested on Wayland, though. For good measure I’ll add a comment on the original post.
