  • Personally, I don’t trust 13th/14th gen chips period. I’m sure I’m overreacting but I’ve simply seen too many dead computers due to Intel’s CPU bugs in last 12 months that no amount of microcode updates will make me feel comfortable selecting one of those processors, especially when it’s my own money on the line

  • The sad thing is I’ve encountered funky compatibility issues just between current versions of word. Going from Office 2022 (I think. I honestly can’t remember their LTSC office releases off the top of my head at all) to M365 triggered some minor formatting changes, and going from local word document to one that’s shared on SharePoint completely fucked up all of the images in the document and required many hours of rearranging the images because word still sucks for desktop publishing

When I worked at a bank we had a loan officer who wrote in such broken English that the email filter actually started flagging and blocking his outbound emails as a suspected compromise. Worst part is he was handling multimillion dollar agribusiness loans. Second worst part is he’s as white American as they come, having had family farming not 20 miles away for generations, so it’s not even like he can claim a non-local dialect or second language challenges

  • I mean, there was a period about 15 years ago when he seemed to be the only rich person actually talking about climate change, doing something that might make some difference (investing in an electric vehicle startup, and later a rooftop solar startup) and seemed to actually be concerned about it. I now question if that was just an act or not.

On the other hand there is the theory that he fell down the right wing social media pipeline during the pandemic and that’s why he’s seemed to have such a sudden shift on political party affiliation. I like that theory because I think it’s kinda funny to imagine one of the richest men in the world being too cooped up and spending too long doomscrolling to the point that he became radicalized by social media algorithms

  • Good question! I can’t remember.

I think I read a Microsoft blog or something like a decade ago that said they shifted from a Hyper-V based solution to Linux to improve stability, but honestly it’s been so long I wouldn’t be shocked if I just saw it in a reddit comment on a related article that I didn’t yet have the technical knowhow to fully comprehend and took it as gospel.

  • Completely flabbergasted that we run internal services not indexable by google.

This is why it’s becoming the norm to have an Intranet with a links page to all of the internal and external webpages employees rely upon. Just make that the browser homepage with Kerberos authentication and the employees never need to know URLs or Google the internal/external service they’re trying to access
