That sounds like a missing virtualization extension of your cpu. Can you share your pc stats? Cpu model, ram, gpu?

This is absolutely no problem with virtualbox and a win10 vm. I tried wine as well but no luck. You just need to pass the usb port to the vm and youre good. I had to reboot the apple device though so it would connect correctly.

To be fully honest, running windows on the device should not be much more demanding than running windows baremetal. Because running a win10 vm means running the os in factory new condition and not having any additional autostarts etc. Only reason against that in my book would be a missing virtualization extension.

I think it isnt a great idea to go for new ever. Why would you? You can buy 10+ yr old computers for 10$ or get them for free. It is far better for the environment and far cheaper.

I think the best solution would be to talk first.

Gather 10 reasons why it makes sense. For example, its wayyyyyyyyy cheaper to run linux, ethics, etc. Dont wait for them to get frustrated but approach them first and build up an ethical primacy. Thats how i do it and it works.

From there, you ask them what they need. “Just works tm” is sadly how autocracy works. Under hitler and mussolini, healthy, white, party loyal people had a “just works” situation. Dont ask, dont tell. But foss is democratic. It is messy at times.

Reality is, you can make linux work. If something is really stubborn, you make a vm. Shockingly easy! But if someone wants that polish, that plastic world with 14 year olds with pumped up lips and butt implants, you need to let them go. They are lost and need to face reality.

Semantics but gnome and kde were there first. It is android that looks like gnome and windows that looks like kde.

And for the people with internet, tv, radio or access to newspapers:

the police can make you look at the camera to unlock your phone (for example to check if you’re aiding refugees from the ethnic lgbtq cleansing) but they cant (easily and in some countries legally) force you to type in a pin and password. I know the point is a bit moot for a pc as at that point the will just rip out your drive, assuming its not encrypted.

Still, worth mentioning imo.

Definitely not nobody but statistically VERY FEW people will have this combination:

• pop!os (fight me!)
• script that limits accumulator charge to 80% on asus laptop
• script that turns on vpn if out of home and kicks off a backup if at home (through wifi ssid)

Okayyyy… thats not great. I just read one of the threads and thats scary.

The person(s?) maintaining this seems to be VERY BAD at communicating. They did fix the auto start problem but did not at all discuss this from what I see. Thats not great.

It works very well and there is no speed difference at all. Of course you wont ever get anything worth in life without either putting in the work or paying either with money or your privacy.

I agree that the playerbase isnt huge. I do think a small dedicated playerbase is pretty nice though.

And you have no telemetry, no chat restrictions and its free.

The redstone is a large feat indeed. I started working on that but had to stop due to time constraints. Its still in my head though.

All in all there is just too much great stuff someone with a little drive and a little coding knowledge can do in the foss ecosphere.

Where I live, a lot of smallish companies look for people with experience rather than certificates or degrees. I‘m a hobbyist turned professional and it shows. I cant talk any of the jargon but I handle servers well and I make short work of most small company IT problems. That and the ability to think in business processes works well.

I agree that it can be viewed that way. I wish they would have worded it accordingly.
