using a computer is bloat when the browser can use it for you. i have a second computer just running selenium to use my computer for me.

using a full-blown operating system to do everything is bloat when the browser can already do it all. just kernel and browser should be enough.

all major browsers have built-in fully functioning video players, ergo they are video players. and most people have a browser running anyway so startup is likely faster than a standalone application. using a separate video player is bloat. same with music players, and text editors, and pdf viewers.

they’re going to make it more difficult too. you basically need to enable dev mode a second time, then for every application that can install ap, you need to re-approve then wait 24 hours.

oh i know, it’s part of painfully many workflows. i don’t understand how it got started and i cringe every time i hear someone is doing it. i’m not suggesting this seriously obviously.

stop editing pdfs, that’s like scrapbooking. put the stuff into a mutable format and generate a pdf when you’re done.

yeah, the bigger DEs use more X11 features that they now have to build themselves.

i mean it’s better now, used to not be able to show the greeter. when i set this machine up i had to change the session through the tty.

i know all the reasons that switching to wayland is imperative for the distros. i also know that it still has massive gaps in the implementation that are required of a working desktop, like accessibility. it’s been almost 20 years and yet here we are.

so if everyone in the world used kde, “only” the usa would be on x11.

but like… kde also has extensions. your complaint isn’t about DE’s then, it’s that your use case is uncommon.

is the “clone panel” button in panel settings not enough? gnome doesn’t even allow miltiple panels.
