Recently I switched on the iGPU. Now I tried various distros and Arch and Bazzite worked out of the box.

IDK if it’s the one but it has #linux channel
Thanks for the thankless work. I hope that the changes will be accepted upstream.

I tried using fedora atomic but the lack of non-free software just didn’t work for me (blender + hybrid NVIDIA graphics). I am using bazzite for a week or two and so far so good.
3d heavy modeling
Depending on the program of choice to go with AMD over NVIDIA will heavily impact your performance as cuda is better optimized than rocm. For me rocking rtx3060 it was hit or miss. It mostly depends on the distro if they choose to package the NVIDIA drivers out of the box. Some distros value freedom over usability. Right now I am daily driving bazzite and I am happy with it. For drivers its self I didn’t notice any major issues.
From your convoluted explanation I assume you have one PC already and you want to upgrade. I would just get a new one for work stuff and old one set up as “light work” as you put it or hook up to the TVs

I was collabing on a game with an artists (godot + git) and they just used the github gui for windows and it worked great. They just made art in their program of choice and drag and drop into the folder. They clicked push button and it worked for a game jam.

How is cycles in viewport behaving?
Ludrol@szmer.infoto Linux@lemmy.ml•Recommend a laptop with good GNU/Linux support for a 3D artist12·6 months agoFor blender nvidia gpu is a the best for cycles as it has optiX support.
If she does ONLY modeling and uses eevee renders without viewport previews then integrated graphics could work.
If she wants viewport preview then dedicated GPU is a must. IDK how fares AMD gpu in blender as I didn’t have one for years.
Some gaming laptops with dedicated GPUs need external kernel modules just to work if they even have one.
My best bet would be to go for old gaming laptop.
My second best bet would be to go for system76 as they have some gaming laptops
I have rebooted into recovery mode and after connecting to a network it seems that with some warnings, it begun upgrading.
You can use windows in indefinite trial version with Activate Windows watermark. Grab a windows iso from the website. Put it on USB stick (I use Ventoy). And install. I would keep windows bootlaoder and grub on separate partitions.
Can you downgrade the network to older standard?
It would seem that there isn’t easy way to do it on windows. You would need to RE and write the drivers yourself.
There is a accessibility setting to disable touchpad when typing. You could try to hack into it to disable your mouse. From quick look at it I don’t think it possible
Is the rust kernel drama over?
