I am doing this and it works quite well. My PC shows up as a headset on my phone and i connect to it as such. I dont have any custom software for it so its very basic and i still have to pick up the call through the phone, but once i pick up it uses the audio input/output of my desktop machine. Im on debian 12 with KDE, but i assume it should be just as easy on ubuntu.

Nah the people doing the pro bono pen testing know. At least for the frontend side and maybe some of the backend.
It probably is in mints repositories but you will figure it out… But yeah that card shouldnt have any issues to stay cool in idle without much fan spin. Its normal for the fans to spin up pretty hard when gaming but if its during idle too then thats odd. You should add GPU usage to your psensor chart and add a screenshot of that.

Also what specific model of card made by which company are you using? Fan curve config is something handled by each third party company differently.

The non destructive filter/styling stuff seems like a massive improvement imo. For people making complex scenes with effects applied to each layer this makes it so you can easily modify individual aspects of a layer after the fact.

How long has it been since you used element/matrix? Serious question because the new element call stack is now finally released in element stable, as of a few patches ago. (It still only shows up as the “video rooms” feature that u have to enable in the labs/beta settings)
Its much cleaner than before and properly supports screensharing, adjusting individual user volumes and more. The previous jitsi based voice rooms were somewhat lacking i admit but they have been functional for years.
That was the last thing that kind of kept me from fully endorsing matrix but now it does all that really important stuff. The new mobile ElementX client also supports the new call system but its overall lacking compared to the normal mobile client which does not support it.
But for desktop use i dont have any complains anymore about matrix really.
Have you tried 535 yet? I would do that before trying to experiment with other installation pathways.

Yeah for anything except some games, wine/lutris or a virtual machine will work wonders. Not having to reboot is much nicer. You can also consider booting windows off a fast usb stick or usb ssd.
hmm okay i dont really know anything about pop_os, but yeah it seems that it doesnt like it if you install stuff outside of its pre selected set of packages. my next GPU will definitely be an AMD one, nvidia is just a mess.

Right so i searched for a while back when i got those issues and the only solution that really worked for me was installing 550 instead. Idk how PopOS / ubuntu does things. So doing this could be easy or super fucking annoying.
depending on the repo you are using for the nvidia driver, you might be able to specify the driver version during install like so:
sudo apt install nvidia-driver-550
I am on debian12 and installing from repo didnt work for me as there were lots of dependencies that had version conflicts. I ended up installing it with the .run file which is really tedious.
Im gonna be honest tho the chance that this will fix your issue is not that high. Nvidia problems are so fucking diverse and could be due to any number of specific system component and package combinations. But if its already broken, might as well try right?
Yeah there was something there but its still in the right league at least. It might change the ranking slightly but it wont change that its at the low end.

That sadly doesnt mean anything. That would range from 3050 to 3090 so its meaningless.

So its pretty weak, comparable to a Nvidia 1060 roughly. Which is still fine for 2D games and most 3D games at low settings.
The CPU is a pretty good one, the GPU is on the weaker side. You can run plenty of games on it, but AAA games wont run very well. This thing isnt very old and AMD GPUs are well supported by linux drivers so there shouldnt be an issue there.

This is what i never understand about attempts at P2P hosting of copyright content. It only works BECAUSE its obscure and irrelevant. As soon as it gets popular, all of these people and their VPN providers would get crushed by lawsuits.
Dont get me wrong i love P2P tech, but it will never solve these issues unless the laws are fixed.
Previously this required some tinkering, but on my current setup it just worked out of the box. Just make sure your computers bluetooth is set to be visible to other devices, then it should pop up on your phones bluetooth search list. Make sure you give the desktop phone call and media permissions on your phone.
If this doesnt just work ootb, then you might have to change some config files to enable it, but there is lots of information out there if you look for something like “linux/distro bluetooth as sink”
