So it’s a library?

It would still be cool if they wrote what they’re actually delivering…
I hope it can follow the system state. It’s pretty much the only application left in my system that hasn’t had support for that AFAICT.

But yes, exactly. The reason is most definitely that nobody tells them there are alternatives. People think Windows “is the computer”. Much like they can’t separate the monitor from “the computer”. And these things are hard, even though they are obvious to us who know.
Victor@lemmy.worldto Open Source@lemmy.ml•WinKey: Ultra simple left windows key disabler1·26 days agoHmm? That’s not how what works? I was really just making a poor joke there.
Victor@lemmy.worldto Open Source@lemmy.ml•WinKey: Ultra simple left windows key disabler1·26 days agoI was just kidding. 😁 But also there is surely a huge number of people who are simply unaware of any alternatives.

Glad to see a completely honest review. All I ever see is “Fastmail best mail” without much explanation as to why.
Thanks! I saw Tuta from the previous comment and thought 1 GB is a bit on the small side, kind of like Proton. But not too expensive to go up a tier either. 👍
I found this while searching on my own. Might help someone else. 🤷♂️
Anything European-based to recommend? I’d like something as far-removed from America as possible, respecting GDPR, privacy, etc., but with a good-sized free-tier storage. I don’t think I need more than a couple GB for email. Calendar included would be a big plus as well. 😅 Probably asking for a lot here…
Ah I see. So now to the possibly tough question, if you had to choose only one, or recommend only one of them to someone who wants to make a minimal amount of new email addresses, which one would you recommend over the other? 😅 Or maybe a third option?
You have two email addresses in both Tuta and Mailbox? Any particular reason for that, that you could share with us? 🙏
Goddammit I had such high hopes for Proton. Was planning on that being my post-Google main. Now what. 💀
Does that driver support SDR to HDR conversation, AI upacaling,
Assuming you mean conversion and upscaling. DLSS is AI upscaling, right? I don’t think X11 has much support for HDR. But I’m not well versed in display servers at all to make that claim firmly.
and most importantly: the 3D Settings page? I can live without the first two features, but I can’t believe that there is no 3D Settings page in Linux. It has so many graphics settings that aren’t available in most games.
Ah, you mean that custom program where you set a bunch of settings externally and specifically for each game? I think the program
nvidia-settings
has that? Try it out!And yes, AMD GPUs can’t keep up. Especially if you like Ray Tracing. I’m not an AMD hater; I have a 7700X
Ah that’s a shame. Newer AMD cards are surely better than my old 2080 Super though eh. 🙃
Nvidia has an open driver now I believe? I install
nvidia-open
.Curious to know what you mean by:
AMD GPUs can’t keep up
And,
I had to go back to Windows
you had to, because of HDR? I have an Nvidia RTX 2080 Super, and I don’t know of any features that are missing. Games can do DLSS and ray tracing and whatever else they need. For me, support seems to be absolutely beast on Linux. 🤷♂️
Without having read through your codebase, are you using someone else’s top bar, or did you write it yourself in ags?
I wasn’t satisfied with the performance of any bars I tried for X11 so I wrote my own custom one using the eww widget system. I’ve tried ags for a bit but I couldn’t even make an empty bar window that attaches itself to the top of the screen and spans the entire width of my single monitor. 😅 That part worked flawlessly in eww.
I have worked with TypeScript for about 6 years now, professionally, and I really enjoy it. It’s got all the nice things from JavaScript, obviously, and almost eliminates all the bad stuff/uncertainties from JavaScript. That’s my opinion. I feel very confident working with TS.
What are you doing now? 🙂
I have no intention of leaving my web dev consultant career, I’m loving it, regardless of poor practices (it’s not so bad in the places I’ve been). But I’m curious what kind of careers people find after software development.
